I Want to Share What Made Me Happy Today
Today I spent the day helping out with a play day for an organization that provides therapy for kids with special needs through horse back riding. Most of the afternoon pretty much consisted of the kids showing of their riding skills. Then we ate some great bar-b-q. Later, after sunset we got a little show from some really good fire dancers, followed by a live blues band.
It was a really good day, but there was something really simple that happened that made me smile from ear to ear.
When the music started playing, people were just sitting in their seats, clapping when it was appropriate to do so. When the third song, a Stevie Ray Vaughn tune, started playing a little boy that I know quite well got up and started dancing.
This boy, I've known for about four years. He was 4 when I met him and he's 8 now. He's autistic, but he also has cerebral palsy. He got up and began dancing in circles in the middle of the dance floor, leg braces and all singing Christmas carols to Stevie Ray Vaughn.
It was like he broke the ice, because the dance floor filled up after that.
I know, this is so simple and silly, but it just made my day, my week.
