If Only I Knew...

We live in an uncertain world. When we leave home in the morning, we assume we will return in the evening. When we say goodbye to loved ones, we take it for granted we will see them again. We presume they know we love them, so maybe we don't say the words as often as we should. Unfortunately, we fail to consider the mortal reality that this may not be the case...until it's too late. Tomorrow does not always come.

Someone once said that "life is short, so keep short accounts with god". That is wise advice, but I'd like to add that we should also keep short accounts with every person who is in the circle of our lives. We never know when life will be dramatically changed... sometimes permantently.

Think about it. Don't allow the regrets of "if only I knew" to be the final marker in your life. Be swift to love. Hurry to be kind. Take the time to make someone feel special. Be quick to forgive and realize in relationships there are two people, don't hold back.

Freely give hugs and kisses, and may " I love you" be often on your lips.

This is dedicated to all of the people in my life that I love and hold close in my heart. And to you the only that holds my heart in a way I never thought imaginable......

Some of you may recognize some of the quotes, all of them are special, just as all of you are special to me...

If only I knew I would never hear your voice again.. I would cherish your every word....every inflection in your voice, with all of my heart.

If only I knew this was our last hug, I would hold you tight and hope to never let you go.

If only I knew this was the last time the very last time I would see you I would take the time to treasure everything about you.

If only I knew that disagreements did not mean a lack of love. I would have been hurt less often,

If only I knew Tomorrow was not coming I would ask you to forgive me for any wrong I may have done to you,

If only I knew this as our final kiss, I woud use it to tell you that you are the love of my life.

If only I knew I could never share another day with you, I would make the most of every second.

I plan to add more ... I hope you enjoy.

I did enjoy -thank you :)

very well said, my son lost a classmate in a wreak the other day. And I have to sigh, as I overheard his last words to his teacher: The child had 2 pops in his hand as he was leaving school. The teacher causually asked him if he had enough pops to last the rest of the day, he said; If I don't, I will be back at school and get more pops tomorrow." The teacher laughed and said; "See you tomorrow!" His tomorrow never came.

Very well said

Thank you!

Wow, this was so lovely! And right on the money....

Very true my little faerie :) ... some day may never come..

thanks sarasomeone..I think I may have to add some more soon :)

*sits to wait for more*... one of the biggest mistake we can ever have is when we use "if" instead of "when"...

very nice person you are

its so touching...i feel so guilty of treating badly to my dad...

Roxanne- Thanks so much, None of us are ever promised anything so it is best to make the best of all situations and never leave the people you love wondering how you felt about them :)

SuperMother- thanks my friend and I will check out :)

That is brilliant Snowy. So well written and oh so true. It makes you realise that all the little gestures count in a life which is short anyway. A life that we can never be certain when it will end. Great story.

amysangels- you are very welcome! hugs to you too my friend :)

hugs,thanku for this story.

OrchidSukura-
Thanks so much for your kind comments :). I think it is a learning process for all of us. Leaving things unsaid is never a real option with someone you love because the unfortunate thing is you may never get the opportunity to say those things to them. so live your life in the NOW and tell the people you love how you feel about them.. Its a great motto!! I am working at it...

Cabcraft- thanks so much, I am so glad you enjoyed it :)

Beautiful, tender, true, precious, thank you X@

Thanks to all this was a story written for someone that I care for deeply so we would never forget.... however, I think along the way alot was forgotten~ :(

No one has deathbed regrets for having given too much love to others.

You said it right.
God bless

Thanks all for your wonderful comments :)

I couldn't agree and relate to this more. Its wonderful

I love what u wrote. Thanks

If lots more people felt this way, the world would be a much better place.

andrealoiuse- Thanks so much for the comments. It is a huge re-awakening!

Thank you so much Snowbunny. I got teary eyed after reading the last line. I had a road accident 2 months ago and it made me realize how short life is. And reading this made me again realized that i have to spend quality time with the people i love. No room for hatred but only love and an understanding heart.

enjoythebeach- thanks so much!! I loved putting this out here, I hope all who read it get something from it :)

Snowy you've pretty much summed it up! I have always lived by the principle, since I was a young age, around 7, when a lot of people in my immediately family died unexpectedy! Each day I live like it is my last. I give and give all of the love that I feel inside. I don't ever wan't any words t be left unspoken. Get on the phone, write that letter, get in the car and visit. Very moving post!

Bonnebelle- thanks so much, it is very heartfelt indeed.

giggles- thanks :)

Bobfrost- thanks BFF!

Dimples- Thanks I will add more soon :)

Yes, they were good tears for two I have loved and lost in this life. But I have no regrets, just wonderful memories that your story triggered. It's all good :)

Thanks giggles- It was an easy post to write. Sorry about the tears but I hope they were good :)

This so heart felt poetic reality.. Thank you for sharing. My eyes were damp while reading and I just couldn't type any more. What a powerful message.

Thank you for this post, it is much needed in the world today. I found very early in life the truths you have written and for the past 34 years I've tried very hard to live my life letting all those I love and cherish never go to sleep without hearing me tell them what a blessing they are to me. Again, thank you, this brought old memories and fresh tears to my eyes ((hugs))

destry- that's what I am talking about. I want to make sure the people I love know it!

Bluebie- Love you too!! It was weird

This is so true Snowy! We never know what can happen in the next minute, better make this minute count. Your dream sends chills up my spine. Creepy, girlfriend. And I will take this opportunity to tell you that I love you muchly :)

arthurca- Thanks so much ! Yes she did know, and I was lucky to have that opportunity to tell her :)

Hugs & love to you unshakable- ahh ungrateful children, I have two! LOL - I'm hoping it gets better as they get older. I never want to leave this place without all of them knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I know how you feel.Sometimes its hard to tell your ungrateful son.siblings and friends how much you cared and loved. I am pretty hardened in my feelings now as i am now working hard to achieve my good health and happiness.I have surrendered alot to God and ask Him to take care of them.HUGS & LOVE.

Unshakable- thank you so much, you are gonna make me cry :). It comes from a place deep within and the dream really made it a lot more prominent. It truly made me step back and assess some things in my life. I remember feeling totally helpless in not being able to communicate my love any longer. So with that in mind I plan on telling the people I love them, you should never feel like you need to hold back on that.

XOXOX Snowy~

Its such an awakening message and real truth about our life on earth. Its so well written and lovely. My heart begins to feel the need to re assess the actions i really need to take. This beautiful message will always linger in my mind and acts as abarometer to all my intentions and decisions.Thank you dear friend and Blessings and Peace.

Aww thanks Angel- bit of a reflective post to say the least. But we are never promised tomorrow. And I had a dream that I was killed in a car wreck 3 days ago, and I remember feeling like I couldn't get to the people I loved to tell them before I faded into the light. I am not trying to sound dramatic here but there was certainly a defining moment to me. That no matter what I want them to know I love them.

Marcus101- Thanks.

This is something we all should adhere too. And guess what, I have more - LOL :)

Awesome story, honey...I understand what you are trying to say, and I appreciate it, tremendously.

Love,

Exactly LittleLena! It's an easy trap to fall into... I plan on putting some other quotes out here as well.
It's a great reminder none of us are ever promised tomorrow :)

Thanks WIB! I loved putting this out here..because sometimes frankly, we all take things for granted.

aw ... I loved this snowbunny ... so true. It's great to be reminded of such simple truths.
