Black Chess

Actually, you did.  Both in my sleeping dreams and my daydreams.  But the dreams anchored themselves to me in real life.  I struggled to stay afloat, but was finally unable.  They pulled me below the surface, where I held me breath as long as I could.  I did silly, foolish things to make my dreams into my reality, instead of letting go, as I told myself time and again I had to.  Instead of doing the sensible thing, I let myself drown.  And all around people could see how foolish I'd become over you, because, of course, those dreams died too.
