Day 6 (a Song That Reminds You Of Somewhere)Well my youngest daughter started going through a phase when she was about 14. Basically she had this compulsion to hate me. EVERYTHING I said, was wrong, EVERYTHING I did was wrong. ALL she wanted to do was argue with me. I never understood why this started but the general concensus was that she was jealous of her elder sister (who was always very close with me).
Anyhow this stroppy attitude continued relentlessly for a couple of years. Then for her 16th birthday I asked her "What do you want for your birthday?" She answered, "I'd really like to go to a concert, but I don't know what I'd like to see?" I pointed out to her, No matter what I think off she'll never like it. She then said, "but I haven't got a clue what I'd like to see. Just pick something and if you could get me 2 tickets so I can take a friend with me that would be great".
I felt sure I was on a hiding to nothing here. I then said "OK I'll get some concert tickets but I'll just choose something that I'D like to see. If you don't like it then TUFF" She said "ok fine" Anyhow I got the tickets but she couldn't find any of her friends that were interested in going, so then asked if I'd mind going with her. So that's how I ended up taking my daughter to Portsmouth to see Alice Cooper Live as her 16th Birthday.
She absolutely loved the show and during this song I noticed (prety ironically) that she was crying! Naturally I gave her a hug. From that day on she changed. For some reason I went from Zero to Hero overnight. I've never understood quite why. She's even confessed that she can't understand what that nasty phase of hers was all about either.
So anyhow this, to me, is Portsmouth. The town that got me my youngest daughter back.
