I Don't Believe I'm Different From Others

I think certain kids are made members based on their IQ scores. I was. Frankly, I think all kids belonged in this group. I'm not the smartest kid on the block. I think they put me in the group based on my eccentricity as well.

I wrote plays in elementary school, mainly adaptations of classic tales. I directed the plays and created the scenery as well. I suppose my teachers considered play writing an outstanding skill. Still, I couldn't pay attention to lessons in class. No power of concentration. This leads me to believe I actually had, and still have, ADD. Funny how a learning disability and serious mental illness can sometimes be mistaken for genius. That's my take on it. I have made many mistakes in life and underachieved in every way. This is not the way of the genius. Heck, even my grammar stinks. LOL

When our MGM group attended special concerts and events I questioned why all kids weren't allowed to attend. It is unfair for some to attend and not others.

Makes me wonder whether the organization was and is truly relevant. Decide for yourself:

We had something similar at my school called GSP which was Gifted Student Program. I got put in that based on my IQ and grades. Once a week I got bussed from my school, to another school to take classes. I didn't feel alientaed from my peers, I just felt it gave me an opportunity to meet kids more on my level from all over the county. :)

I guess it depends on the kid. It made me feel like I didn't fit in with others any more. I wasn't comfortable with that. I don't want to be estranged. Some kids were jealous of MGMs. I couldn't understand that either.
