One of the Best Things That Ever Happened to Me...

Oh, I still drink. This is not one of those stories.

No, when I was 19 I was doing so poorly in college (I was blowing off so many classes I actually missed a midterm) that the school asked me to leave. With no other prospects and my family heading off to Europe for a year, I ended up joining the Navy.

That is actually funny to anyone who knows me.

Now any idiot can guess what happens when you get hundreds of 19-21 year olds guys together. They start drinking. And drink we did. So much so, in fact, that one of my buddies decided he had an alcohol problem and admitted himself into the hospital with a dependency.

The Navy, of course, tells him, "Fine, your an alcoholic. We'll help you. Now your first step to recovery is telling us who you've been drinking with." Ha!

My buddy finally gives into the pressure and names names. A bunch of us get busted for underage drinking. We're punished and given the choice of attending alcohol counseling or getting a medical discharge.

I hated the Navy with a passion. So I opted for the discharge. Yes, getting busted was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

How much does the navy pay? And if you choose the option that's chosen when you have nowhere else to go, usually it's gonna suck...

wow what a boss!!!!!
