Spina Bifida

Hi! I am a 23 year old female who has suffered from back pain my whole life. My pain was mostly lower back until I had a car accident. Only then did I start having neck and upper back pain. I was recently diagnosed with Spina Bifida Occulta in my cervical spine (apparently very rare). Could I really have gone this long without being diagnosed? I have had numerous x-rays, MRI's and Catscans, and they only discovered this now. I'm not quite sure what to believe and am very confused. Any advice?

My brother has SB occulta and he found out when he was like 15 from a chiropractor. He doesnt have any issues with his back I do know he has bowel movement issues but thats all I know..

it is possible that you have occulta and never knew my uncle has it and he only found out because he hurt his back at work and thats when they found it. he was i think in his thirties at the time.

As with any diagnosis I would get a second opinion. Another thing to consider is going to a reputable doctor that specializes in spina bifida. I wish you the best. I have a relative with spina bifida.....Its not easy.
