I Was In a Car Accident
I was in a car accident when I was five. It changed my life. I will remember it like it were yesterday.
We were on vacation, and my mom was driving. She was tired, she had all of us kids with her. She was unable to recover after hitting the side of the road and rolled the van. I remember the rolling. It woke me up, and all I heard was clashing, screaming, dishes breaking. It was the worst sound I have ever heard.
I awoke and stood up. I was on the road. I had been thrown from the vehicle. I looked down at myself and all I could see was blood everywhere. I remember being scared and confused at the same time, because here was all this blood on my body, yet I couldn't feel it. All I would feel was my chin and it was hurting. I was in shock. I had severe road rash and my clothing had been burnt into my flesh.
I looked over to the ditch to where my older sister was sitting and crying. She had blood all over her white blouse. I went to her and she held me. A blonde woman in a red sports car pulled over and had us sit in her car while help was on it's way.
I had to travel to the hospital in a police car as the ambulances were tending to the ones who were injured more severely.
At the hospital I remember being put on a stretcher, and people looking down at me. The lights were bright. Someone started cutting my clothing from my body. I remember hating the feeling of being completely naked on a table in front of all these people. At five that actually really bothered me. I was still in shock. I still don't remember the pain. It wasn't until after that I remember the pain.
At the hospital I got to see my sister and my brother. They were quite a bit older than I was. I was the baby. They told me that mom had died. I remember being confused. My dad had already died two years before that of a heart attack too young. I found out later that my oldest sister had died as well, two days after the accident.
Since I was left an orphan, I had to start a whole new life with a different family that I didn't even know. My parents knew them, but obviously unknowingly made a poor choice in choosing my guardians, as they were very abusive. But that's a whole other story.
