i- I was riding my scooter with a safe distance between the car in front of me and me. Another driver saw the empty spot but not me, and entered the road right there, into me. I swerved to avoid hitting them, and hit a rough patch of road, causing me to go down hard. I woke up in the ambulance, and was in and out of consciousness for a week.
It seems that there is no permanent damage to my brain, thankfully, but I have been incredibly dizzy for a month, and my brain capacity has been less than normal. I have a broken cheekbone, two broken teeth, a lacerated tongue where I bit through it, and some scrapes on my knuckles, knees and ankles. All in all pretty lucky, I know.
But it's been hard- I haven't been able to work, and I'm having to slog through all the redtape around L&I, insurance, the hospital bills, and so on. All this while not at full brain capacity. While they say I've had no brain damage, I'm operating incredibly slowly- a few beats behind where I normally am- and get dizzy so easily. Plus my cheek and teeth are starting to hurt a lot- that must mean the nerve endings are coming back around? I guess anyway, so maybe that's good. It's been hard without any direct answers or help.
Anyone have any advice, support, ideas? I haven't eaten a real meal in some time- living off of pudding and quesadillas- soft food due to the hole in my tongue. And I'm scared about making it back to 100%, though trying to allow for healing to take it's time. And worried about covering my bills... So anything anyone can suggest would be great.

 | Posted Aug 7th, 2008 at 12:07PM Howdy- who would I sue? the other car never saw me, and never stopped. Other folks saw me go down and called 911. But even they didn't get a vehicle description or license plate number. It seems I'm on my own vs the insurance company (mine) and L&I on this one... |
