I Was Injured In A Car Accident
Nov 4th 2004, 10 amish. I was driving a company truck along Azusa (busy st in SoCal) and while cruising about 45 mph, the engine dies. I pop it into Nuetral and try to start, nothing. I try to slam it into park, won't go. I hit the brakes, boosters not responding. I kick down the e-brake, there isn't one! OK is this a set up or what?
The Ford F250 is dead an hauling some serious *** into an intersection of Azusa and Temple. I try to wrestle the steering wheel, as to put the truck into a pole or tree, save someone else the hassle of being hit, sacrifice myself type of thing. Could not budge it. Now I'm a decent size human, so that sucked. My options are now as follows: Jump out of moving truck, or barrell into intersection. I chose option 2.
I wake up in hospital. Right ear was ripped off (re-attached), collar bone pushed through my back/shoulder, and broke a few ribs, concussion (duh) torn ligaments in shoulder and elbow. Amongst the damage list. Was not wearing a seat belt either! Could have been a lot worse. What happened? I almost (according to police reports) made it through the intersection w/o a scratch...ALMOST. 18 wheeler t-boned me 1 lane before freedom. When he hit me (see above) the impact sent the 18 wheeler in to a church parking lot about 275 ft away. Driver un-harmed.
