I Watch Documentaries
I watched this documentary called Modify. It was on Netflix and it looked interesting so I though "why not?" What I didn't realize was how graphic that documentary was...Oh my gosh....I am not easily grossed out but.....ew!
It was also kind of fascinating too. Turns out you can stick hooks in your skin and hang from them without it hurting. The people who did it on the show actually said it was the best feeling they have ever felt. I find that a little hard to believe considering how they are shoving hooks in their skin but I suppose it's possible.
When I was watching this, it got me thinking. Some of this stuff is mutilation to some people. They actually talked about the comparison to body mutilation and modification. Almost all of the people that were being interviewed on that show said that what they do to themselves is modification. But in truth, it really depends on who you ask. There are a lot of factors that can shape someone's opinion on any topic. There really is no right or wrong answer. To some, a simple piercing can be considered mutilation. To others, putting magnetic implants under your skin, or implanting horns or spikes is modification. One guy on the show made himself look as close as possible to a tiger. Down to the teeth, nose, and everything. He didn't even look human anymore. Some would shutter and cast pity on this guy when they looked at him. But when he was asked why he did it, he said because it made him happy. He was happy with the way he looked and nothing anyone said could change that. I guess my opinion on the matter is that...well...I know I wouldn't do anything to my body that would cause me pain but, if it makes the person happy, why judge it?
