I'm not sure how I should be described. I believe that humanity is causing global warming and will have a heavy price to pay. As always, we look like taking the difficult, painful path, when there is an easier one available. Even if there is no truth at all in global warming, we should not be treating the planet as we are. Deforestation is just one example. By now, we should have stopped and reversed the process, as a matter of urgency, but the best we seem able to contemplate is slowing the process down.

The story, in Avatar, is very similar to what has happened to peoples living in environments like the Amazon. They have a deep understanding of the natural world, live at harmony with it and are happy. Along come the developers, who drive them out and often kill them, destroying their culture and their environment. The diverse community of plants, insects and animals counts for nothing. They leave behind a wreck, which never recovers.

With a little more thought and less greed, long term strategies could be put in place, which would allow a responsible, sustainable use of natural resources. Civilizations have disappeared, in the past, because they have trashed their environments (typically, chopping down all the trees and not replanting). At least, they could plead ignorance. With all the scientifica tools at our disposal, we cannot do that.

Sorry for going on a bit!

Sadly, in reality, the unscrupulous developers tend to get their way, as you indicate.
