Wearing Socks Without ShoesThere are some activities where I will wear socks outside without shoes when I do them, and that would be getting the mail, taking out the garbage, and getting the newspaper.
I like to wear socks outside when I get the mail, take out the garbage, or get the newspaper.
When I was a kid, my grandma lived with my mom and I, and not wearing socks outside was grandma's rule. However, no other kid in the neighborhood had that rule. Why would a kid want to go outside in socks without shoes? The answer is, because the kid sees everyone else doing it, and if the kid isn't allowed to do it, he'll think he's missing out on something. My mom did let me go outside in socks once, but after a few minutes she changed her mind about it because she didn't want to hear my grandma having a cow about it anymore. I really enjoyed going outside in socks for a few minutes, and I learned what I was missing. Unfortunately, I never got to enjoy it again.
I was nine years old when we moved to a new neighborhood, and the girl next door was one year younger than me. We became instant friends. Of course, Jennifer was a very unpopular kid, so I hit it off with her immediately, and we were best friends. Jennifer always wore socks but never shoes when it was warm enough to do so. However, if it was raining, that did not change her footwear habits. Jennifer always asked me if I could go outside in socks, and I always had to tell her I wasn't allowed to do it. Her reply was "Your grandma's mean." At the time that really upset me, and I always stood up for grandma. Looking back, she was right. That might be why another one of my EP groups is "I Had A Mean Grandma". I always thought I was missing out on life because I wasn't allowed to go outside in socks without shoes.
I was 21 when I moved into my own apartment for the first time. I finally felt the freedom to do whatever I pleased. So, everyday I would go outside in socks to get the mail, get the newspaper, and take out the garbage, weather permitting.
The mailbox and the dumpster are usually the extent of my comfort zone for walking outside in socks. It seems that women who do go outside in socks have a broader comfort zone for going places in socks. I don't know why this is, but maybe someone can research it. I have two female friends who are more apt to go places in socks without shoes, and they're completely comfortable with it. I spent all day yesterday with them, and they both wore socks without shoes all day long. First, we had a picnic at a park, which was 37 miles from where they live. They left their shoes at home, and they had no issues being 37 miles away from home without shoes.
I took off my own shoes eventually, because we brought inner tubes along and we were going to go floating on the river, and I took off my shoes because I cannot stand wet shoes. After we were done tubing on the river, I left my shoes off because I didn't want to put wet socks in dry shoes. After that, we went to watch the fireworks display. My friends stayed in their socks all night, and I stayed in my socks all night because my socks were dirty and I'm not going to wear dirty socks inside shoes.
