Welcome And My Experience With Them

A s long as individual tourists and locals to the Orlando/Tampa area theme parks, be it the Bay Area's Busch Gardens or those of my ideal vacation destination, the Walt Disney World Resort, they will likely see foreign groups in either matching backpacks, tops, or both. Many travelers who leave footprints on them report stentorian, soccer match-like chanting bouts, line-cutting incidents, and other follies deterrent to their vacations. Those are the tour groups (or what I call turismos) and a staggering majority hail from Brazil or more recently, Argentina. The winter and summer months are the periods of school closures, and that breathes life to the pet peeves of people doing Disney and what Central Florida has to offer.

I have encountered them before many times in past vacations and daycations. The last peak season when those groups rear their ugly heads (and flags, which denote them, as you can tell) was at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, one weekend in July. Relatives out-of-state came to my home in nearby Dover, and I gathered them up for two consecutive days at the park. The park was brimming not only with the out-of-towners and locals, but with Argentinean and Brazilian tour groups! None of the latter chanted, let alone raced us on Gwazi on one of those days, but the Argentinean ones chanted on line for Stanleyville Falls and as they rode Tanganyika Tidal Wave. That was one crazy, but fun day, although I prefer fewer of those groups, just to be courteous of the guests who hate them.

I hope this experience would help you vent your hatred or indifference for those tour groups.

Enjoy!
Tiffany J. L. Alfonso
