And Now It's Just... Awkward.

Don't get me wrong, Harvard was great. But now that I'm not in the Boston area any more, I've found that people have really disconcerting reactions to "dropping the H-bomb." I spent four years in a little nerd-topia where it was all right to walk down the street with your nose in a book, to get drunk and talk about Schopenhauer, to learn an obscure language just for the hell of it, and, most of all, to be unabashedly curious about things that most people would say have no real-world relevance. Now everybody just thinks I'm weird and dorky. I can't seem to interact with people properly. At first I thought maybe I could not come across as QUITE so odd at parties if I could just get really wasted. But no, then the big words just come burbling joyfully out, and I'm just nerdy AND wasted. Damn you, Harvard, for showing me that there was more to life than inane banter and then pulling the rug out from under me.

Hey, man. I have no one to blame but God and myself for showing me that there's more to life than meaningless banter....I'm just as much a sore thumb and I've never even been near Harvard.

Hey! Be happy! Some of us can only wish we had gone to Harvard (and I bet that would include those people who you feel put down by). I can still dream...
