SIMON COWELL suffered a devastating collapse this summer as the strains of his professional and personal life became too much.

He had to withdraw from filming auditions for the US X Factor when his lifestyle saw him change into a “weird vampire”.

Stricken Simon had to be put on a strict detox regime to give him the strength to battle his “demons”.

Book ... new chapter

His doctor in Los Angeles told him to remove all supplements and health aids from his life and quit smoking.

Cowell, 52, was bedridden for a week, cutting himself off from friends, colleagues and even the demands of top TV executives.

He is said to have confided in X Factor pal Louis Walsh: “I don’t want any more tablets and pills. I’m cutting out the lot, including cigarettes.

“I desperately need peace. I’m craving normality. I’ve got to work out my demons and come out of it.

“I have to get back to where I was years ago. I had to stop reading texts at three in the morning and making calls later and later. I wanted peace.”

Cowell's enforced three-week break to recover from nervous exhaustion is revealed by author Tom Bower in an updated chapter to his best-selling book on the media mogul.

SWEET REVENGE, The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell is published by Faber and Faber.

* Hands up now who thinks this is such a bloody shame???
this poor man...remind me..I think his bank accounts reads like a telephone number.......
but just imagine how how much better his life would be if he ws struggling in a 20 storey cramped flat in Brixton or some other part of Englands, green & pleasant land...working a 15 hour day in some grimy, noisy factory to support his children, pay his taxes & avoid his utilities being cut off........of  course the lesser mortal working in the factory (or wherever) would not be burdened by the tough decisions in life like Mr Cowell is..I mean Mr joe Public will never to make the crushing decision wether to fly business class with lufthansa or would Pan Am be better??Not to mention the heart wrenching experience of having to decide which restaurant on Rodeo Drive to patronize .... ah dear I can see straight away how such pressure would make a man take to his bed for 3 weeks can't you all? of course you can....I for one wish him a speedy recovery and I think we should all go out..now..right now and buy his book...making him even richer.......................

Aww, poor Simon :o)

Don't know him and won't support him! lol

I loved this!! I think this whole stunt is no more then that his Book agent and him are releasing his heart breaking exhaustion "story" just to amp up the falling sales of his less then thrilling book!! My heart never breaks for these folks......If they didn't want it... they wouldn't keep plastered on tv screens or gossip rags.
