McCain's Racist Remark During Second Presidential Debate? LOL
I'm not trying to be unnecessarily inflammatory, but how John McCain answered one young black male's question about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. Since every word is parsed, sliced and diced, I thought it was worth pointing this out... in short, he answers the only question asked by a young black gentleman by saying, 'you've probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac'-- why would he assume that?

Here's the transcript...
"Because of greed and excesss in Washington and Wall Street, Main Street is paying a heavy price and we know that. I left my campaign suspended to go back to Washington to make sure there were additional protections for the taxpayer in the form of good oversight in the form of taxpayers being the first to be paid back when our economy recovers, and it will recover, and a number of other measures.
You know one of the real catalysts, really the match that lit this fire, was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
I bet you may never even heard of them before this crisis (pointing at questioner)."
I know it's probably nothing, but hey, he torched Obama for 'lipstick on a pig' comments... :)

Posted Oct 8th, 2008 at 11:07AM I don't get why he said that but I didn't consider it racist. I don't understand why this election has turned into a race defined by color, sex and religion? I feel like it is clouding the issue's we should be addressing. He said she said is reaaly getting on my nerves. I realize it to some degree has always been a issue but it's getting old and time is running out.
Posted Oct 8th, 2008 at 6:40PM It was stupid to say not for a racist connotation, but for the outright dumbass answer. He tells the presenter of the question that he may have never heard of them before the crisis...If that were the case, the individual would likely not asked the damn question in the first place.
Posted Oct 9th, 2008 at 8:54PM I noticed that while I was watching too. If I was the questioner I would feel my intelligence insulted, especially because I HAD heard of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac BEFORE the crisis. I did not see it as a racist remark though, I think that for one to think that something like that would be racist, you would probably have to be a bit racist yourself if that makes sense. Obama won over that voter, Obama went straight for the heart of the question and answered it directly, McCain danced around the specific question.
