Feeling Lost, No Purpose, No Happiness

I am alone. I became disabled about 7 years ago, put on 100 lbs, and became divorced. My children are at college - living their own lives, as they should - but they don't bother to even check on me. I am tired of slapping a smile on my face every morning and pretending everything is alright - when it is not. I feel so lost.

Hello -- I am very sorry to hear your sad unfortunate story. I sometimes wonder if there is a god. Seems like the only happy people out there are those who have no feelings to help others. They only worry about themselves. My wish for you, is to learn to stay in the present moment of time. Stay in the NOW not the past or the future but right now look around and acknowledge what you see, taste, touch. I'm reading a book called, "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle - it's brilliant. Our unconscious likes to go either back in time or in the future, it's all about training your thinking pattern and breaking that psychological negative thinking. You can also try meditating, praying or going for a walk. Let me tell you, I feel the same way you do but also gain some joy in helping others too. Good Luck to you, I really hope things get better if they haven't already. I see this was posted back in April.
