I liked this post very much, although I couldn't relate because I was one of those weirdos who DIDN'T think I knew everything in my teens or even my twenties. I know it all now, though. ;-D

Probably the statement that resonates most is the most general one:

"Nothing that happens in high school, good or bad, will matter years later. It just won't."

I wish we could have convinced a local young man the truth of this statement. He took his life recently. Such a terrible waste. I'm glad we all made it out alive, but some don't.

Aww Milky, so cute to know there actually are teenagers who don't think they know everything! How refreshing, truly!

I absolutely agree - I wish I could tell all high school kids it just won't matter in a few years. Popular? Whatever. Not polular? They will likely never even see a lot of these people again after a few years.... and if they are having a hard time, just take solace in the fact that THEY will blossom after (and not peak during high school like some others)

*Knew several people in high school who committed suicide and I still think of them*

It's amazing the older I get the more I realise how little I know. Age and wisdom really is the antidote to youthful arrogance. What you used to love and value become less important and all things that were never on your radar are suddenly so very apparent, like family close friends, health, and balance in life.Thank you for your experience,it helps me to get in touch with my young self and realise that what is important has always been important, and to not take it for granted.

I love this note, thank you :) It is very true: the older you get, the less you know. Hands down. But it's a good antidote isn't it? I like it

From a male perspective this also made me smile. I often wonder about those times and how I may have approched them differently...............but that is what is called expereince............I have had lot's of it and then again none................if that makes sense............?

As usual, it makes perfect sense. And you know, it's good to do things the "wrong" way because it is humbling and it's good to be humbled on occassion.

But my god, 80's clothes... if I could build a time machine... *shudder*

I smiled reading this, as it made me remember some of my own teenaged "regrets". Of course, even if I could go back and give my teenaged self some advice, it wouldn't matter... I'm sure teenaged-me wouldn't listen to my even my own advice. As you said, at 16 I already knew EVERYTHING anyway. ; )

    Love the story.

Your perspective is (always!) so keen and helpful ... required reading for all of us who continue to discover. Put it up on the h.s. walls, mail it to 20-somethings who know it all and discuss it with those a bit older really just embarking on life and set to make important decisions.
