Dutch Food Is UnspeakableDutch food is unspeakable, that's why nobody speaks of it. Don't you dare talk about Dutch food, there might be kids around.
Dutch food is hard to find in the USA. There are some Dutch restaurants in Pennsylvania, but Pennsylvania Dutch are really ethnic Germans, not people from the Netherlands, so you won't get Dutch food at a Dutch restaurant in Pennsylvania, but you will get some Pennsylvania local specialties.
My boyfriend drives a truck for a living, and there is a truck stop in Wisconsin that actually serves Dutch food from the Netherlands, such as bitterballen and boerenkool. The boerenkool is a main dish that is easy to make, but the bitterballen is more of a challenge. I'll serve the bitterballen as an appetizer. I've found the recipes on-line and that was my first experience with Dutch food. It's really good, so I make it for dinner sometimes.
Somebody has to love Dutch food. Dutch food needs loving, too. The waitress at that truck stop told my boyfriend that she hates the bitterballen and my boyfriend is the only person she's met that actually likes it.
