I Am a Professional Fundraiser
I work for one of the top fundraiser firms in the country. We raise money for well-known non-profits.
We do no cold calling. All of the donors have given before. Some of the donors are brutally rude. Here are some examples once I disclose who I am:
They tell you to hold on and then quietly hang up the phone.
They answer the phone by saying, "Who is this?" (who answers the phone that way)
"I'm on the no call list!' "Well sir, that doesn't include us because we are a non-profit you have supported for many years." "Didn't you hear what I said, don't call me!" Than hangs up.
"Hello, my I please speak with Mr. Smith?" "Who is this?" My name is June Dog, I calling on behalf of ----------------. I am a professional fundraiser so the call may be monitored or recorded for quality." "Well he's not here." "He died last year."
Question? Why would not not say in the first place the person is deceased. Some donors have even said, "He/She doesn't live here anymore. He's dead."
I constantly take notes. I will soon be writing a book.
