“The Economist editorial board has long ascribed to the cult of Global Warming.” Okay, so we have some idea where porcpuffer is coming from.

Did you read the article carefully, porcpuffer? While it is true that there’s speculation that particulate matter is responsible for Arctic ice melting at faster rates than climate scientists predicted, they are also saying that reduction in both particulate matter and CO2 are necessary to address long-term climate change. Reducing particulate matter, especially in the Arctic nations, could help de-accelerate the ice loss in the next few decades.

Yes, but they didn't say which is the greater factor, and spent far more time discussing the mechanics of particulate EMR absorption. Beyond that, "The Economist" has a well known bias for lefty causes. It should be called "The Keynesian" in honor of the brand of Economics they promote.

Did anyone actually read the Economist article? The Economist editorial board has long ascribed to the cult of Global Warming, and their headline "Climate Change in the Arctic: Beating a Retreat, Arctic sea ice is melting far faster than climate models predict. Why?" suggests that Global Warming is accelerating.

But the article spells out the most likely reasons, particulate emissions, or soot. CO2 warrants barely a mention. That's an entirely different problem that has been long addressed by emissions controls that have reduced particulate production from diesels and coal plants, the major industrial sources. Ironically, Europe's focus on CO2 has driven them to shift the bulk of their car fleet to diesels. Modern diesels are much cleaner than yore, but they still produce more particulates that gasoline powered vehicles.

This article has nothing to do with global warming, it is specific to arctic sea ice loss, which does not affect sea levels. And it has benefits: shipping is possible through the northeast corridor, and as Alexishappy ruefully observes (unintentionally undermining the peak oil myth), it opens the Arctic to fossil fuel exploration.

Three years ago Florida set a record for the longest cold spell. Last year Miami got frost in Autumn(Miami normally doesn't get frost in winter) This year Florida temp down to 45 degrees in October. Does that sound like "the greenhouse effect" to you? Why do I feel if it froze at the equator .. it wouldn't matter to you?

Go check out "Giant ocean Whirlpools" and "Ocean currents" "Varying salinity" If you tried just a little to understand what is going on ... instead of swallowing whatever political pinhead you've fallen in love with ... You might be able to debate without throwing out political sound bites. Are you even aware the earth's magnetic field is shifting?

That is the sort of scientific analysis I expect from progressives.

Liberal scientists? As opposed to one's funded by those that profit in the oil industry?

If you are honest ... which I see you are not ... the liberal academic side had funding 100-1 vs private sector funding. And again you avoid the glaring 800 pound gorilla .... the "greenhouse effect" doesn't fit. ... which is why the liberal AGW proponents suddenly shifted to "climate change" You are only interested in dablling a little science as long as it fits your anti-capitalism anti-american agenda ... AGW exists because you want it to exist. Do not think there is any solid science behind it ... there is not.

Do these "scientists" even mention the shifting of earth's magnetic field as a factor? No ... The science you worship claims a "greenhouse effect" ... where the earth warms up uniformly ... But that is not what is happening ... is it? We have warm areas and cooler areas ... flooded areas and new draught areas ... because the earth's ocean currents(which science has recently discovered more of ... and discovered they have varying salinity) These ocean currents are shifting along with the earth's magnetic field .... and totally ignored by your liberal "science". Why? Some of these so called scientists(wo acknowledge shifting ocean currents) have claimed shifting of ocean currents is due to "global warming" If that is not a tipoff to their chicanery, I don't think you want to see the truth. Climate causes a shift in ocean currents? LOL ... I don't think so. It is all they have.

How can you be so sure? Especially when so many climate scientists are certain human activities are contributing to climate change?

It is currently 45 degrees in Florida ... Last year Miami got frost in Autumn.

"NOAA expects La Niña, which returned in August, to gradually strengthen and continue through the upcoming winter. It is associated with cooler than normal water temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean and influences weather throughout the world."

I've explained before how the changing of earth's magnetic field is changing ocean currents. That is the basis of our climate change ... not man. So we can save our billions of dollars .. there is nothing we can do to stop earth's magnetic field from shifting.

That part really disturbed me, too. And it seems so senseless.
