America Unprepared for Climate Change, Say Policy Advisers National Research Council claims US agencies and political leaders not getting the right information or guidance

by Suzanne Goldenberg

America is woefully unprepared for climate change, and the government agencies charged with delivering the latest science to decision makers are not up to the task, a new report said today.

  The National Research Council, a policy advice centre that is part of the US National Academy of Sciences, said that government agencies and political leaders, concerned more than ever about climate change, were not getting the information or the guidance they needed.

"Many decision makers are experiencing or anticipating a new climate regime and are asking questions about climate change and potential responses to it that federal agencies are unprepared to answer," the council said in its report, Restructuring Federal Climate Research to Meet the Challenges of Climate Change.

"Robust and effective responses to climate change demand a vastly improved body of scientific knowledge."

The report called for an expansion of federal government research into global warming, as well as a "transformational change" in how scientific research is conducted and incorporated into public policy.

It said government scientists, such as those at the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, needed to pay greater attention to the human dimension of climate change - its effects on food supply, public health and the environment.

Government researchers also needed to forge strong connections across different scientific disciplines and linking the worlds of natural and social science, said the non-profit institution which aims to improve government decision making and public policy.

The committee that produced the report called for the creation of a national climate service, and for further research to determine which parts of the country would be most vulnerable to global warming.

It drew on New York City as an extreme example of the decisions facing government leaders. Greening New York "will take literally thousands of individual decisions in order to upgrade existing municipal buildings, including firehouses, police precincts, sanitation garages, offices and courthouses," the report said.

But although government is increasingly focused on dealing with climate change, it appears that the US public is not.

A record number of Americans - some 41% - now believe the danger of climate change has been exaggerated in the mainstream media, a new Gallup poll found. In contrast, only 28% thought the media had downplayed the dangers of global warming.

The rise of climate change doubters was among Republican and non-affiliated voters - but not Democrats - and was confined to those above the age of 30.

Is it Global Warming or Climate Change? Because they have different meanings. Globalists had to change the name from global warming to climate change recently because for the last 10 years - the earth has been cooling - and the data no longer supports the global warming models.<br />
<br />
The bottom line...whether you call it global warming or climate change...you are seeing a political scam unfold right before the publics's eyes. The globalists are intent on collecting money by levying taxes on carbon emissions. They are trying to accomplish this ob<x>jective through the creation of public hysteria by making the public believe that human carbon output is somehow going to lead the earth to some catastrophic end.<br />
<br />
CO2 makes up about 0.03% of the earth's atmosphere. CO2 does not have particularly good insulating properties. Humans account for about 3% of the CO2 output. The other 97% comes from nature. So who...or more precisely...what is the greatest culprit of CO2 output? The ocean - particularly tropical waters near the equator. As water temperatures warm, the liquid releases more gas into the atmosphere. <br />
<br />
In fact...it is the warming of the earth (and hence the oceans) that leads to the release of CO2 into the atmosphere. Isn't that the exact opposite of what the globalists want you to believe?<br />
<br />
Global scientists love to use models and evaluate climate change over the last half century or so. Imagine using only 50-100 years of data to make broad claims about climate change of the earth which is approximately 4 billion years old.<br />
<br />
Yet scientists that have evaluated climate over the last 600 million years have all come to the same conclusion. The earth's climate has always and probably will always change. The one thing that has been constant and without exception is that as the earth warms, CO2 is released into the atmosphere. <br />
<br />
Globalists want you to believe the exact opposite. But science and history is not on their side. <br />
<br />
Forget about global warming and climate change. And keep your money in your pocket.

"The rise of climate change doubters was among Republican and non-affiliated voters - but not Democrats - and was confined to those above the age of 30."<br />
<br />
Hah! lol...why am I not surprised? Thx for the post.

No problem, thank you for taking the trouble to post the report in the first place!

That was wonderfully stated! Thanks!

The 'psuedo' scientists are people who have researched their field to either prove or disprove the theory of climate change/global warming. The data they have collected is real information, not some fabricated rubbish to put the fear of God into every living person's heart. <br />
<br />
The data tells them, and anyone who cares to listen, that since the industrial revolution the levels of gases in our atmosphere have jumped up drastically. This effect has been called the 'greenhouse' effect for very good reason, those gases warm our planet, just like a greenhouse strangely enough.<br />
<br />
Usually climate change can take thousands of years, but then there have been no animals on the planet until us, which have pumped so much pollution into our atmosphere.<br />
<br />
Also, lets see who is responsible for the apparently independent research, which negates almost the entire scientific community, Ah, those who are in the pay for organisations who could stand to loose their profits, should jo public actually begin to take notice.<br />
<br />
Take a look at the news, take a look at research papers, take a look at satelite pictures and mappings of the ice caps, do all that and make your own mind up before deciding it is a load of nonsense.<br />
<br />
It's a scary future for our children and their children, it's a scary world for nations already, some island nations are going to be displaced very, very soon - we're talking generations, not centuries.<br />
<br />
Climate is creating havoc around the world, more severe flooding, droughts etc. <br />
<br />
People should stop burying their head in the sand, and believing what they want to believe just because it is easier for them to do nothing.

If you read a little more about me, you'd know that I rarely, if ever watch TV or movies for that matter.<br><br />
<br><br />
You said 'There was no financial benefit to it' That's exactly the problem. Greed. Why should anyone change anything as long as you can make record profits continuing the damaging practices to our environment. You should really read some real scientific materials, not the junk science crap.

You have been watching to many movie and TV program on the subject . Climate changes takes century to happen if not millennium . <br />
<br />
2000 was proof that if society was concerns about climate change , it could reduce world wide emission by 40% in matters of days . There was no financial benefit to it ,to anyone was why it was not pursued .<br />
<br />
Today pseudo science into climate changes has large financial benefits to many is why it has gone the direction it has . <br />
<br />
So don't worry about it , if it was a real issue emissions can be reduced to 1960 emissions in matters of days with nearly no effect on society as a whole ,effecting more that two million person on a days bases .<br />
<br />
Look into real science and not media directed pseudo science . You be less concerned .

You are correct. Global warming is hogwash, perpetrated by politicians who want to levy taxes based on carbon emissions.

Their problem is the science doesn't back up their claims.

Thank you. Reading........... It's making me crazy! :-/

thanks for all the info- i can always count on you for this kind of stuff!
