Meeting Him On Midwinter's Night

On Winter Solstice I attended a pagan Yule gathering. Numerous local pagans gathered on the longest night of the year. My work in the old religion is now to pass on a lifetime of knowledge to younger men and women. I attended the dinner to support and teach.

We shared a dinner, lit a thousand tiny lights to call back the sun and enjoyed the company of each other. Our gathering was held in the middle of town on a snowy night. Eventually it was time to go home.

As I left the pagan Midwinter I was confronted by the largest Stag I have ever seen. His horns were wide and proud. He blocked my path and stood there looking straight at me. Our eyes met and he nodded his approval. Then he turned, took a couple steps, and vanished into the darkness.

I was left there surrounded by darkness in the middle of town.

May the Lord of Darkness, The Horned One, guide and bless you too.

This is a great story. Since my son was born, I can't hear him. It contributed to my recent fall, but I know in my heart there's a reason for it.
