Sweetcitywoman - I hope you get well soon. I have been sick lately myself so I can imagine how horrible you feel. HUGS!

I loved this story and love this group. I hope every EPer reads it because everyone of us needs a little dose of humility now and again. We are all human and we are all imperfect. Besides, perfection would be boring.

AP - I LOVE your comments. You are so insightful and compassionate, just want to hug you! Thank you.

*Im sitting on the floor, too. I dont think I can qualify for a chair yet...Im too young and have too many things to "perfect". lol ;)

The perfect human has yet to be born which is a blessing as they would be very boring!! It is our imperfections that make us interesting.

I needed to end my day with a laugh ... I love you Sis, but I'm going to get tucked up in bed and snuggle with my blankies- they are "perfect" for comforting me.

Hey, this human tendency is actually very well recognized; I understand that it is one of the specific issues which therapists/ counsellors will look out for, and try to address.

Looking back across the years at the "me" of my twenties, this kind of black-and-white thinking did make it difficult for me to form durable friendships with new friends. I remember colleagues and friends telling me things like, "Grrr... you always see things in black and white!". And I also remember feeling disappointed by people all the time.

    :P

I think if that we are humble enough to recognize that we ourselves are not perfect, it makes it that much harder for us to rush into judging others whom we perceive to have behaved badly by "our" standards.

There is another angle too: It is so easy to get locked into what the shrinks call "patterns of unstable and intense relationships which swing between idealization and devaluation". Classic "Black-and-White" thinking.

My gut tells me that anybody who is capable of seeing *any* of us crazy human beings as perfect (ie WHITE), is probably inclined to see other people in terms of BLACK and WHITE (no shades in between). So to them, everyone is either: The Best Guru In The World... or The Most Evil Person In The World. The moment the "White" gets a little dingy (eg. if some mischievous or bored person starts a whispering campaign), that person is immediately marked as "Black".

I really like this story. Again, thanks.

That was a nice classy reminder, SCW, for everybody on EP -- people you *don't* like as well as people you do like. Including me!

    :)

    Thanks!
