I Would Like to Go to Graduate School
Last year I applied rather late to the Gallatin Program at NYU a pretty prestigious university. The Gallatin program allows you to create your own Masters! The idea for the Masters program was Forensic Socio-Psychology and Law, a pretty long title, but the main idea was for me to continue learning as much from both my undergraduate majors with the addition of Law and criminal procedures. The crazy idea I had was to develop novel methods on deterring sex trafficking and/or working with children that had a history of sexual abuse. Therefore, I wanted to also concentrate on sexual deviance and determine methods of channeling sexually deviant thoughts on a possible perpetrator to deter any possibilities of future assault. Anyways, I didn't get selected into the program and I was pretty upset and sad about.
Currently I am applying for two Criminal Justice programs one in New York and the other one in New Jersey. I already filed the FAFSA and one of the applications is completely done. I have to admit that the idea of not being chosen to go go graduate school is once again disheartening, but I'm trying the best I can to continue furthering an education. However, I have also been toying with the idea of pursuing other masters programs such as a Masters in ESL instruction (since at one point I worked as an ESL instructor), Masters in Physical Therapy, Masters in Psychology and other ideas. I'm just not 100% sure as to which degree I'd like to pursue. What I do know is two things, 1- is to either work for the government in a department that deters sexual exploitation of children and 2- working with organizations that serve the same purpose as number 1. Sadly thought the path it seems I'd like to get into doesn't seem to pay much money, but I think I'd rather do something where my heart is in it than do things for money and completely hate it.
