The Mailbox

If you read my story about writing a book for my sons, then you know I love writing my thoughts and feelings to my loved ones. I keep a small case like the one pictured above by my front door. It serves as a personal mailbox in my family. We write each other notes, cards or just a joke to start someones day off with a smile. Sometimes just a little bag of someones favorite candy or cookies is the day's delivery. Anything to say , "I love you and I'm thinking about you" was put in the box. My children are grown and have their own homes and I have not put anything in my "mailbox" in quite some time (hahaha, who would read it? My dogs aren't that smart!!)
Now that I am married to a wonderful man, I have resumed using that box. His reaction? He loves it. I see him come in and the first thing he does is open the box to see if I have left him something to make him smile. Sometimes it is just a note sealed with a kiss and sometimes it is a reminder of something we have shared over the past 5 years of our friendship and love. To the outside world, my husband is not a man who gushes and shows his feelings. Aah, but down deep he is a man of passion and romance and I am the lucky recipient. He has begun using the "mailbox" and it is a surprise and a delight to open it and find what treasure he has left for me that day.
I have many friends who live by the mantra: "He knows I love him, I don't have time for that stuff". Hmmm.....could that be why they are always complaining their significant other pays them no attention and seldom shows any spark of interest? My "significant other" knows that I love and adore him. He sees it in my eyes, hears it in my voice and feels it in my touch. But it only takes a moment to write a note or letter to touch his very soul. Why not take that moment.... you will be amazed at what it will produce :) Today he left me a wild flower with a tiny scrap of paper that simply said "I love you".....it made my day (and believe me, it will make his night! hahaha)

Yes, I do indeed love the "mailbox". I've never known anyone that loved her family like you do, it's wonderful and I am blessed.

LMBO well, I think I'll just stick to "nice" mail. I've left a few suggestions in the box , but they were all in good fun and he had no complaints ;)
