Eats, Shoots and Leaves !

THIS IS THE TITLE OF A BOOK ~ not about Pandas
but about PUNCTUATION ! The title suggests not a
Panda having his dinner but a GUNMAN in a CAFE !
It has sold over 3 million copies worldwide !

It was published by LYNNE TRUSS in 2003 who has
a bee in her bonnet about commas. There are Punctuation
Police in EP but I'm not one of them - I use too many dashes !

APOSTROPHES are a particular bane of Lynne's - especially
on public notices. Plenty of stock inside CD'S VIDEO'S DVD'S.
She also hates people who leave out question marks but also
overuse the exclamation mark !  (I'm guilty of the latter !).

The placing of a comma in a Bible verse can alter the theology.

"Truly, I say unto you, this day you will be with me in Paradise."
This is the Protestant version which excludes Purgatory

The Catholic version places the comma after this day.
"Truly, I say unto you this day, you will be with me in Paradise."

This was said by Jesus to the Thief on the Cross who repented.
He had done nothing to deserve to go to Heaven and therefore
was an ideal candidate for Purgatory in Catholic Theology !

There are many other examples - but take care Lynne might
be a member of EP and checking on all your punctuation !
