The Mask

The mask hides the face

but not the eyes.

Such intricate works

Done in gold

Jewels adorn that sparkle and shine

Overlay the matte of soft cream.

Made to hide

Made to distract.

Hard as steel, sharp as a knife

Eyes of the hunter

Eyes of the hunted

Eyes of passion

Eyes of pain.

Eyes of desire

Eyes of detachment

Eyes of love

Eyes of fear

But above all

Eyes full of beauty

The mask cloaks who lies beneath

made obscure from prying eyes

The soul beneath still there to see.

The mask hides the face...

This is true fjm while the eyes are the windows to the soul, in some cases they can also hide what is really behind there.
I tend to see the good in people which is a good thing, but it has also got me burned a few times

Thank you both eight and WiB.
You're correct we all wear masks, every day and show only what we choose others to see, but the eyes never lie.

Yes southernman ... the eyes can be the mirror but sometimes we have to look deeper ... and beyond. Very beautiful.
