I Am A Tree

I am a tree rather than a flower.

Rather than shining brilliantly in the sun,
Only to wilt a short while later,
I would much prefer to start fragile,
Growing slowly and beautifully into my strength.

I am a tree rather than a flower.

Perhaps my sweet scent will attract a stranger,
Though I will lose much in return.
Whereas now I can serve as the home to many,
The centre of a family which grows with each passing day.

I am a tree rather than a flower.

As a gift I am the among the loveliest,
Although common and fleeting.
Two names etched into the very core of my being,
Will forever last, so long as nature is Mother to us all.

I am a tree rather than a flower.

Humble as you are proud.
Simple as you are vain.
Unyielding as you are unsteady.

I am a tree rather than a flower.
