A Soldier's Prayer

For those who fight and battle wrong,
It is for you I pen this song.
For those who uphold what is right,
I pray you may not fall by night.

Mortal bones and bodies lay,
In churchyards where the children play,
In heaven find thee recompense
For blood so shed devoid of sense

A prayer for those in time of war,
Whose brothers die on unknown shore,
Whose bodies lay in desert sands,
Whose lives are held in God’s own hands,
Whose blood is spilt upon the stone,
Whose souls depart so far from home,
And being bourne on angel’s wings,
May sit beside the King of Kings.
