Airtight

airtight
she sings in airtight spaces
cars that are empty
save herself
showers in empty houses
kitchens far removed from company
normally in butter-left-in-the-sun
lullaby tones
she ventured into a bolder voice
projecting and carrying
through the walls of that pickup truck
and she had a tone of her own
not mimicking another
but filling out the space
where her notes should be

they come back with the grocery cart
loading the bags in the back
thinking she remained there
just to sleep in her seat
and her voice slinks away
into the shadows
from whence it came
