Her Day At The Beach
After many years together and many months apart,
She wanted to spend this day with him, As he was always close to her heart.
A day in mid-October she spent time with him down by the Sea,
It had been the first time they shared a day together in years- that
was relaxed, fun and carefree.
A stroll along the boardwalk, his hand in hers- they talked about the past,
and how each of their boys had been growing up so fast.
He apologized for not meeting her emotional needs all the years that they once shared,
He told her how much he deeply loved her, and that a day never passed that he didn't care.
She knew in her heart this man loved her so, and for that day in time-
She thought it may be possible to give it one more go.
As they walked along the beach collecting shells, she would look over towards him every now and then,
Wondering in her heart, how would she know if it was possible to start over once again.
All she could hear was the crashing of the waves and the sound of the seagulls, she kept noticing him, he was handsome and strong, still tan from the summer sun,
In all the years they spent together, she can't remember many days the two laughed and had fun.
There was an unexplainable feeling that day, it was as if they were the only two people in the world-
He was so peaceful and content she thought- she hadn't seen him that way in so many years,
The emotion of the day was bringing on few of her tears.
As she sat on the beach, the cold wet midst blew onto her hair and face,
She thought about what their life would've been like in a different time and place.
She felt sad that summer was over, the rides were closed and winter was drawing near.
She looked over to the roller coaster and pier, she thought to herself, it's amazing how it stays in that water, year after year.
As they walked up to the boardwalk, they left that day behind- it would become to her a cherished memory in time,
The sounds of the ocean and birds became faint and she heard the noise of people now, as they too were having their own good time.
She felt that this day was one of the most special days the two shared in all their years,
He never understood why they couldn't re-build upon that day, and let go of old fears.
I t was to her the day she had yearned for all that time, in a strange way to her it was a beautiful goodbye,
Not to rekindle what had been gone, or a reason to give their relationship another try.
A few weeks later the storm came and destroyed the place they both held so dear,
The boardwalk was gone, so was the beach, and even the pier.
Not everything in life can always withstand the wind and rain,
Same holds true of some of our relationships, some hold reminders of too much pain.
She realized that although the storm took away the place, it would never take the memory of what that day in October meant to her.
She had her day at the beach with the man she will always think fondly of and care for,
It was time now for her to say goodbye, and walk through a new door.
