Why Must I Care

“Why must I care”
by T. J. Blankenship*

Why be a believer?
You’re just gonna get screwed over.
But then you’re a cynic
Who won’t trust a clinic
Or wish on a four-leaf clover.

If I give you a call and ask you to call back
You just try to avoid my voice.
So I call you and the phone rings and you never answer
Talking to you is not a choice

You tell me your problems and endear my heart
But then I find out the real truth
The problems you told me were meant to deceive
You were lying through every tooth…

I give you my all
You give me your none
Do you even care about me?
Are you even grateful for my selflessness
Or does watching my pain give you glee?

I’m sick of this crap.
I just need a nap.
A nap from the whole human race.
But when I awake
I’ll just have to take
More of your crap right in my face

I can’t just stop trusting
That would be disgusting
I love humanity too much
I care about people
I was raised ‘neath a steeple
I grieve at their sorrows and such

So commence; keep ripping my heart into shreds
Till there’s nothing left for you to rip
Steal it from me; throw it into the sea
I’ll just stay here and wait for my ship.

Thanks...you explained it very well :-)

Beautiful. It shows your feelings towards an unrespectful world, yet you still keep your commitment to goodness. :) I loved it

I'm glad :-)

Oh my god. That explains exactly how I feel often.<br />
<br />
It may be sad but most of it is the truth. I know as I have gone through it before. <br />
<br />
I can really relate to it.

I know :-(<br />
<br />
I do feel better after writing it though. It was quite cathartic.

Thanks so much! I'm glad I could provoke some thought!

I really loved it - really - it brought out emotion, it made you think - it made me sad, sympathetic and thoughtful - really good!
