Unexpected

W aking from thought filled dreams of your presence,

saddened to realise that you’re not lying next to me

but lifted by the memory of the touch of your lips.

Your hand on my skin, my hand on yours,

sharing sensations of touch

that is felt ever more keenly because of its absence.

In that warm and safe cocoon

between sleeping and wakefulness

I feel you.

I didn’t realise that I was missing you.

I felt okay being on my own,

I was happy in my life that involved working and caring for my son,

occasionally sharing

some contact with others

but at a distance.

I feel good about your honesty.

I like the way you are not afraid

to say how you feel,

that you are willing to take that risk.

Looking into your blue eyes

there is an acknowledgement of me

before my languid lids close

again to concentrate

more easily on the feeling

of lips brushing lightly,

tongues caressing and probing

and the taste of you.
