Walls

I am here to protect you

From your obsessive desires

They are a danger

Don’t deny it

Or blame me for this.

Put down your hammer and ask yourself,

Am I such a burden?

Reconsider what will enter

And what will be lost

If you tear me down.

I know there is a price

For life lived in containment

But I keep you

From pain and loss

And I know how you fear these.

But by your hands I was constructed,

And at your will I will lie down

But don’t blame me for what will follow

You, vulnerable, exposed.
