My Indelible Reminder

I do not wear a tattoo,
yet I’ve got one on my heart.
An indelible reminder.
It stings worse than a dart.

I wish I didn’t need it,
yet this pain is good to bear.
A souvenir of heartache,
caused by reckless words I shared.

Not drowning in self-pity.
Not dwelling on the past.
It’s not a broken-heart-poem.
I’ve got peace of mind at last.

This tattoo is a fine one.
I’ve never seen one fairer.
For without the sting I’d suffer,
replication of my error.
