Life Just is...: Written on: June 17th, 2009
We spend much of our life pondering around and wishing for what could have been. Life is too short for that. We make mistakes; that’s life. But we waste our time beating ourselves down when something doesn’t work out or if we make a mere error. Perhaps our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Maybe if we never veered off course, we wouldn’t have made the friends that we have, or fallen in love, or become who we are. Everything in life, good or bad, happens for a reason. We learn from our mistakes to certify that history will not repeat itself. Perhaps the past is like an anchor that holds us back. Maybe we have to let go of who we are to become who we will be.
No one can safely say that they have never idolized a celebrity or a TV icon. We have been spellbound by the media with ways to look and act. We often pretend to be anything but ourselves to impress others. We put on a fake personality, a fake impersonation of someone who ought to be ‘cool’. Women are certainly no strangers to faking it; they've faked their hair color, cup size, they’ve even faked fur. Society is a masked ball where every one hides his real character. You shouldn't have to sacrifice who you are just because somebody else has a problem with it.
We do it all hoping to be ‘cool’. Cool is but a word, an adjective, a verb, a noun, an exclamation. Some are born cool, others have coolness thrust upon them. Still others beg, borrow and steal just to gain that inner coolness even if it’s only temporary. As we strain to grasp the things we think will make our lives better, such as money, popularity and fame, we ignore what truly matters, the simple things, like friendship, family and love, the things we probably already had.
We all have needs and wants in our lives. With the money we get from jobs or from our parents, we’re able to get just about anything that we want. We’re so prone to buy things without hesitation we can’t differ needs and wants anymore. That’s the thing about needs. Sometimes when you get them met, you no longer need them. It’s tempting to wish for the perfect friends, the perfect parent, or the perfect outfit. But maybe the best any of us can do is not give up, play the hand we've been dealt, and accessorize what we've got.
It’s the little things in life we forget and at times we take them for granted. Enjoy the simple things. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for air. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The sole person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be alive while you are alive. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants or hobbies. Your home is your refuge. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but not to where the guilt is. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
People come into ours live and people go. However, it’s comforting to know the ones you truly love are always in your heart, the heart that not even you can control. Love is a funny thing that makes your heart ache in a good way. There are the relationships that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far away from where you started, and those that bring you back. Some loves last a lifetime, however others crash down and burn into pieces we can no longer put back together. No matter who broke your heart, or how long it takes to heal, you'll never get through it without your friends, simple things.
Life just is; you have to flow with it. Give yourself to the moment. Let it happen.
