Recess Is Over

Recess is over
And I'm walking back to the scary school building
I walked with Aubrey
Aubrey Stradlinger
There are kids going back to homes where they'll be loved so much
But I can't point out those kids
Because I'm scared that we'll touch
A lady is giving me
An icy glare
But no one notices
Because it never really happens
And someone wrote on a wall
That Ms. Yule is a lesbian
And she loves me
But I don't mind at all
And there are things I wrote
On my arm to remember
But I'm told to scrub it off
And I know I'll still remember
Because I'll be smarter than they thought
And there's colorful ice melting
Getting on my knees
And there's marijuana in my lunchbox
Its in the mood to be needed
By someone
Will someone need me?
Aubrey got in trouble
And everybody cares
We both wish
We had something like a stuffed bear
Then maybe we'd get to Race car heaven
Aubrey's brother went
When Aubrey was eleven
But I stuck around
So as to not seem so selfish
I don't want to go back to recess
And have to be a child
Or talk to the teachers
Those terrifying teachers
They have it in them to kill me
Or make me off myself
And away called the vandals
And away called the can
And away called the hysterical
Old crazy man
Away called the can
Away called the swing
Away called the frustrated
Teacher who needs me
She really needs me
Recess is over
And I'm walking back to the scary school building
I walked with Aubrey
Aubrey Stradlinger
There are kids going back to homes where they'll be loved so much
But I can't point out those kids I can't point out those kids
Because I'm scared that we'll touch
