I just found out this morning that my boss was about to throw someone under the bus. I don't know why. Don't really care why. She is a quality person, very smart and articulate, and very kind, but apparently very dumb when it comes to politics. I like her because I look up to her. Anyway, I called her and told her something was up, she should be prepared. I know it was unfaithful to my boss, but I thought she should be prepared if she was about to be mangled. You know when you know you're about to make a bad decision but you do it anyway because you just feel like it would be wrong not to do it? Yep. Apparently Ms. Mangled told my boss that I called her. And now they want to know what I told her.

How dumb? How freaking dumb can a very smart person be? Today, I WTF. And now I have to play dumb too.

    And this is what makes office politics worse. It's hard to help or want to help people when they don't know how to handle situations.

    Steal her lunch from out of the company refrigerator for an entire week straight. Let her think about that for a while. That'll teach her.

    I would own every aspect of it. Sometimes you have to look at yourself and go...okay...I just did that--now I have to own it.

    I am a big believer that the best defense is a good offense in situations like this.

    Don't wait to be called into a meeting--suggest it. Then don't wait to be asked what occurred--offer a timeline and all of the relevant information along with the best explanation you can muster--that is without being defensive or arrogant I would just say---I did this. I believed it to be the right thing to do at the time. If it wasn't, I apologize.

    The one thing that people do not say often enough--especially in the workplace is, I am sorry. Also, often when a person stands up and takes full responsibility for their actions it disarms people--as it is a very rare event in the workplace.
