The True Meaning Of Circumcision

The Meaning of Circumcision

When The Most High told Abraham that part of the covenant He was to keep with him would be that all males including slaves would be circumcised, and from that time forward, all males at 8 days old would be circumcised.   See Genesis 17

The meaning behind circumcision is that the cutting of the foreskin represents the old life without GOD in their lives, and the blood from cut represents a new life with the Most High.  A people who will obey His Laws and Commands, from generations to come.

This is in harmony with what Paul writes in Romans 2:28-29
28 it is not the man who is a Jew on the outside, whose circumcision is a physical thing.
29 Rather, the real Jew is the person who is a Jew on the inside, that is, whose heart has been circumcised, and this is the work of GOD’S Spirit, not of the written Law.  Such a person receives praise from GOD, not from human beings.

When a heart is circumcised it means that it has given up the desires of the world and it’s only desire is to fulfill the Will of GOD.

They waited 8 days because the number 8 means prosperity.   Anyone who got circumcised on the 8th day prospered in life with the Most High.

So much disinformation...baptism does not replace circumcision. Baptism is really immersion that occurred from the beginning as a sign of going from one life to another.
Circumcision is the act of cutting that was asked of Joshua by God before entering the promised land after escaping from Egypt as a sign of covenant.

The Jews did not invent circumcision It was practised earlier by the Egyptians.I think it came in as a substitutes for child sacrifice. Sacrifice required that the first fruits were offered to God so that the rest that came after might be blessed. It is barbaric custom which should be abolished and has nothing to do with faith-it is purely cultural Moreover the first versions of circumcision was just to cut off the tip of the foreskin not the whole thing. That came in centuries later

You are incorrect on both points. Circumcision is something that was 'not" invented, but given by GOD to Abraham.

The true meaning of what it means has been said in the post.

thank you for your opinion. Most scriptures are not written literal, they always have a second or third meaning which I have stated above.

Circumcision meant leaving the old life, and taking on a new one with GOD. However, Circumcision has now been replaced with Water Baptism.

We simply don't know why the ancient Hebrews, many semitic communities, many black African tribes, most Polynesian islanders, and the Australian aborigines are decided that it was a good thing to cut the foreskin off and expose the glans 24/7. A man being unable to perform intercourse was seen as a horrible fate, because it meant no descent. My guess is that many communities circumcised to eliminate phimosis and balanitis, both seen as making intercourse unpleasant or impossible. Circumcision gradually desensitises the penis, but that is often not apparent before the 50s. In traditional cultures, few men made it to their 50s, so the sexual drawbacks of circumcision were not noticed.

Given the daily shower, antibiotics, antifungal and steroid ointments, these historical reasons for routine circumcision do not apply.

I have much respect for a man, past his 21st birthday, getting himself circumcised for reasons of chastity, loyalty to ancestry, faith in God, etc.

I cannot respect a man believing that it is his religious duty to have his infant son circumcised. This has no religious value, because the son's heart and mind are not engaged.

Thank you!

I wasn't circumcised as an infant and i resent my parents for not choosing to do so. I'm now eighteen and hate the fact that I didn't get to have that. I also read somewhere that getting circumcised as an adult is extremely painful and can take up to three months to heal, not to mention causing even more damage to sensitivity. so i have chosen not to make that decision. thankfully i am the first man that my girlfriend has ever been with and she does not mind, but that hasn't always been the case. girls can be brutal and maybe if there were more acceptance for people like me than it wouldn't matter either way which i believe is how it should be. btw excellent point of view shai, never looked at it that way.

Women of your generation are becoming more and more foreskin friendly.
When I was your age, I was very ashamed of my foreskin. I'm proud of it now.
Adult circumcision is a safe option. You will gradually lose sensitivity, however.

You should be very thankful you were not circumcised. In my experience, girls I have been with that experienced my UNcircumcised penis for the first said they enjoyed it much better than the circumcised guys they had been with in the past. The action of the foreskin rolling back and forth during intercourse heightens the pleasure for her as well as for him.

I agree with you about younger women being more foreskin friendly as I have the pleasure of a much younger lady for a special friend right now and she loves me being intact, in fact she prefers it. However, I would never suggest to anybody that they get circumcised as an adult. I would encourage them to be thankful they were not cut as an infant and enjoy all the benefits that a foreskin provides.

In Biblical times luke there was no choice in the matter of circumcision, as it was part of keeping the covenant [promise] with The Most High. The covenant being to always obey His commands and laws.

I don't know about modern day. I do know that when baby boys are born if they are to be circumcised, it is done immediately, whereas in biblical times, they waited 8 days. The number 8 symbolizes "prosperity" and "infinity" in Spiritual Life.

The covenant being to always obey His commands and laws.......not true the Covenant was God to his people and his faithfulness to them for all time until the end of time. The Turing of the foreskin was a sign of mans acceptance of the covenant between them and Him.

Oops should be the...cutting not turing.

No matter I'd you are pro or against circumcision.....facts need to be clear.

As a side note...my husband was circumcised at 31 ...and had a vasectomy a few years later....I can assure you there was heightened sensitivity and increased activity! No loss here!

i appreciate both sides of this argument, and have a fond reverence for faith..but how much choice does an infant have in such matters?

In answer to your question the obviouos is that an infant has no choice in the matter. If you think about it circumcision is rather barbaric.

Circumcision was performed in biblical time any for one purpose only and that was to show that they were willing to give up the "old" life, to gain a new one.

Regarding sensitivity I have no clue, and I certainly have no clue about size.

seeker of spirit it is not GOD that wants you "fear" Him as in being afraid of HIM. The fear teaching comes from the Romans and has been passed down from generation to generation. The Most High does not teach to fear Him as in to be afraid , but HE does teach about having a healthy fear, which is Respect...

I'm was raised Catholic (have long since abandoned this fear of God club) and am circumcised. My father wasn't. I think my brothers are, though. I don't have a problem with sensitivity, but always wondered if it doesn't stunt growth a little? I'm ok with being average, just wondered.

A very strange ritual, in my opinion, but not as bad as female circumcision! YIKES

Hi dewduster, I didn't think you disrespected me at all.

It really boils down to "choice". You choose to believe the way you do and I respect that, and you respect my choices, and I appreciate that also.

You will find within me, dewduster, I don't debate nor argue, I accept what you believe.

shai, I do know a thing or two about "endurance", perhaps being circumcised gave me a head start on preparing me for what was to come. Ha!

shai I don't disrespect you or your believes, I am just saying I wish it had not happen to me. OK?...DD

You certainly have the choice to believe what you wish. I don't argue nor debate.

There are a lot of things that "hurt", which is why there is "endurance."

TRW, I agree with you.

Not all circumcised men are Jewish or even monotheistic. It was also performed for "medical" reasons and for hygiene. I disagree on all levels and think that God would not approve of the reasons in the Bible, either. It HURTS is anatomically unnecessary and is damaging to the penis.

I agree 100%. It is totally unnecessary for both hygiene and medical reasons. It is my opinion that people should bath daily and that solves any hygiene issues. I am just very thankful that I was NOT circumcised and to this day thank my parents for being forward thinking in leaving what I was born with alone.

Thank you emrldpeeps..

Dewduster, you answered for your self, You stated you a man without faith, so therefore you don't know who the Most High is or His Son, so why you would you believe.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one.

(1.) I am a man without faith and I don't believe what someone else writes unless God/dess and my own personal experience confirm this "knowledge".

(2.) I am not Jewish and resent being circumcised before I had any say in the ritual.

(3.) Worse, I hear that being circumcised reduces sensations while having sex due to constant rubbing against underwear.

REDUCES SEXUAL SENSATIONS!...DD

As a VERY fortunate male in the United States I was spared the knife at birth and very glad that I was allowed to remain intact. On certain occassions, like getting a spontaneous erection while out in public and then having it go back down my foreskin remains pulled back and it is VERY uncomfortable for my sensitive glans so that I must find some privacy and replace it over the end.
