I Bs'd With A Chimmey Sweeper

I make it yearly ritual, even thought I'm not in my home, but a rental Condo with a fire place now.
It calms my fears, for I seen chimney fires and the damage they can do!
I know, allot of times they go unnoticed, well after you go to bed, as the creosote smolders along the walls that line your chimney. I'm not having any of that !!!
So anyway being annal and too overly attentive ,I called on him and when I spoke to him, he said he be around about 12 or so ! I hate that !!!
So the day of his anticipated arrival , I get up and Clean the entire condo, even upstairs, because you never know!
He just might want to look in my computer room, inside my dishwasher, or heaven forbid if he was thirsty, that means I better fill up the Pop and bottled water supply in my fridge...<---- OCD
I moved my favorite lounger away from the hearth and rolled back my special oriental, so it would not get soiled, and then go about cleaning and sweeping the fire place ...lol just stop me , please !!!! anyone got a board or Club ?
So now like clock work, 12 straight up, there I am!
I'm kinda like a kid waiting for Santa's arrival at Xmas time.
A grown man, pacing to and fro, back and forth, continually looking out the Picture window.
reflecting back today, I get a chuckle imagining myself like professor Emmit Brown, during the Courthouse scene In back to the future saying to myself:" Damn , where's that guy? Damn Damn, starring over at the wall clock, Damn Damn...."
He really wasn't that late and when he came to the door, he pretty much looked like this this gentlemen in my Logo, kinda dressed down , slightly soiled clothes, face and hands, smiling.
I say hey and hold the door...<--- anal anticipation..... and do the usual chit chat of introduction.
He Say's he's been kept really busy, with all the request for service, since the weathers turned chilly.
He walks over to the Hearth and stares at it and says It needs clean!
all while I'm thinking the Preverbial dUh that's why I called....
Now somebody please hit him with a stick....
You know the kinda thoughts that keep firing off ,while your smile gestures never give you away...
He goes and retrives his bag with brushes, extension poles and a tarp and then comes back in.
He kinda effortlessly drapes the tarp on the floor , me,( Mr happy to be OCD), grabs the ends of the tarp and completely lays it flat, squirming, kicking it about to fit and cover every square inch of anything it can...LOL
he slowly open the flue and inserted the brush, pushing it about 1 foot!
Me ,all I could do is pull a three stoogies curley Face rub in my mind, think of an excuse to leave by offering him a cup of coffee or something to drink and get up and think where's my stick, where's my stick, I think its behind the Fridge, I know I got one in here some where...
Needless to say he did a fine job, a I got my daily treatment to cure my OCD!!!
Should I just go out and buy my Own Brush?.... Hmmmm

Posted Oct 16th, 2009 at 10:06AM LOL! Thank you for sharing! You are an excellent writer. I felt like I was there pacing the floor with you! Don't you hate when the time window service providers give you is broad? Like, "We'll be there between noon and five!" And then you stress and keep looking out the window or if you decided to do stuff around the house to keep busy you keep going back to the window because you thought you heard a car pull in? LOVE your story hon! | |
